We worked very hard to publish Mapping Mormonism in time for the 2013 Gospel Doctrine course on the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History, and many people found it useful for understanding the historical and geographic context for the history of the Church. Four years have since passed, and here we are again. This year, the Church is encouraging Sunday School teachers and students to use more materials in their studies this year, and we hope you will find the Atlas a useful resources. Go to our Sunday School page to download a few of the most relevant graphics from the Atlas.
Don’t have a copy? It is still for sale at Amazon, Deseret Book, and BYU Studies for $40 or less.
At long last, the second edition of Mapping Mormonism is out! It is still making its way to warehouses and bookstore shelves, but it is available on Amazon or order direct from BYU Studies. Haven’t heard on Costco yet. We are also working on a feasible way to distribute an electronic edition (it might be sold one section at a time).
Mapping Mormonism got a great little writeup in the online version of the Deseret News! Unfortunately, the traffic coming here crashed this site. On the bright side, after struggling to revive it, I finally found a secret setting that is now making this site work better than ever!
Yes, I fell behind, but I have posted several more images to go along with September’s Gospel Doctrine lessons. I will get the rest of the year’s images up tomorrow.
Mapping Mormonism has a great writeup in BYU Magazine, including updated versions of a few of the maps.
Our two awards have finally been published online: CaGIS Best Atlas of 2012, and MHA Book of the Year.
The Mormon History Association, at its conference Jun 7th, announced that Mapping Mormonism has won the Best Book of 2012.
I recently found out that Mapping Mormonism won Best Atlas in the 2012 Map Design Competition of the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS), the most prestigious cartography awards in the U.S.! It turns out we were a tiebreaker away from Best of Show, but I’m happy to hear that someone likes the atlas. I only hope that CaGIS eventually updates their website so it shows something official. . .
To help with your study and teaching of the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History in Gospel Doctrine classes in 2013, we will be posting sample graphics from Mapping Mormonism. See the menu link above for more details.
